Great Sacandaga Lake is nestled between Saratoga County and Fulton County NY and is truly a four season destination.
The Great Sacandaga Lake is a man made lake that was created in 1930 in an effort to control flooding in our down state communities. The original cost to build the Great Sacandaga Lake was $12 million. Our pristine lake is 29 miles long, covers approx. 47. 7 square miles and includes the Towns of Broadalbin, Day, Edinburg, Hadley, Northampton, Northville, Mayfield and Providence. The word Sacandaga is an old Mohawk word meaning ” The Land of the Waving Grass”.
Real Estate along the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake range from small lake access bungalows & cottages to direct lake front homes. Each home and beach permit has its own personality. Some beach permits offer a sandy level access while others might need stairs installed.
The real estate market has been very stable over the years and there is a balanced supply of buyers and sellers. Average market time for a single family lake front home is approx. 3-6 months.
During the summer months the Great Sacandaga Lake is known for boating, swimming and fishing. In fact, the Northern Pike that is recognized as the North American record fish of that species at 46 lbs. 2 oz (20.9 kg), was caught in the lake on September 15, 1940 by Peter Dubuc.
In the winter the Great Sacandaga Lake is known for snowmobiling and access to local trails including poker runs that benefit our local rescue squads and community services. The Great Sacandaga Lake’s fishing associations host several ice fishing contests attracting anglers from all over the northeast and offer amazing prizes. During the winter the ice can reach over 2 feet in thickness in some locations.
